Books without prescription

Last week, Mieszko and his parents came to the “Alarm Clock”  Clinic for children and donated 5 boxes of books!

A young man contacted us- Mieszko , who a year ago, as part of the “Freed from Theory” Olympiad, carried out a project with his team aimed at collecting and donating books, among others, to hospitals.
Together with his well-coordinated and proven team (high school students and university students), they are currently carrying out the second edition of the “Books without a prescription” project. The aim of the project is to collect books, which they then give to selected hospitals throughout Poland.

They collect new books, in perfect and very good condition for children and adults. They also receive books from publishers. They thoroughly review all collected books and only books in perfect condition are given to hospitals. They decided to continue this project because the schools cooperating with them (over 50) and hospitals asked for another campaign. In the first edition, they managed to collect over 24,000 books, which they gave to 70 hospitals (at least 3 in each province).

More about the project from Mieszko himself:
"(...) How did the idea for our project come about? From observing social needs:) A hospital stay can happen to any of us and is always associated with stress. We know from scientific research that reading books reduces stress (according to research from the University of Sussex, after 6 minutes of reading books, the level of cortisol - the stress hormone - decreases by up to 68%). We also know that patients do not always have access to interesting literature in hospitals. On the other hand, we very often observe among our friends the desire to give their books a second life. Our project is therefore the perfect response to the diagnosed needs.(...)"

We would like to thank you very much for the wonderful campaign and the books donated to our patients and their families!
